Day 1: Arrive in Lima
Welcome to Peru! Upon arrival, you will be met and assisted to your hotel. The balance of the day will be at your leisure.
Day 2: Lima
In the morning, you will be picked up at the hotel to begin a tour of the city's main avenues, boulevards, and squares. The tour will begin with a panoramic view of Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Columbian site from the 4th century, found today in the chic Miraflores district. Stop off at Colonial Lima's Main Square to explore on foot and admire the exteriors of the Government Palace, the Cathedral of Lima, and the City Hall. Visit the Cathedral of Lima; as you walk through the Cathedral's numerous chapels, you'll travel to the past and discover various architectural styles (from Renaissance to Neo-Classical), and learn about the religious history of Peru. Your tour will continue with a visit to San Francisco Convent built in the 17th century, and its catacombs.
Day 3: Lima to Cusco to Sacred Valley
You will be assisted to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, head to the Sacred Valley. En route, you will visit Awanacancha, where you will learn about the various types of camelids (Llamas, Alpacas, Vicunas, and Guanacos) that live in the Andes region. The local villagers will teach you about the ancestral methods and techniques used to produce their textile art. The journey will continue on to Pisac, a quaint town famous for its artisan markets where you can find extraordinarily fine jewelry and ceramic and textile craftwork. You will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant before heading to your hotel.
Day 4: Sacred Valley
Continue to Chinchero Village, with an altitude of 12,375 feet (3,772 m) above sea level, famous for its Sunday fair, where local people dress in traditional colorful outfits and travel down from their villages to trade their goods. Then head towards the Salt Pans of Maras, a still-operating salt mine, in use since Incan times. The journey will continue on until you reach the archaeological site of Moray. Used as an agricultural testing ground, the site's system of circular terraces descends 490 feet (150 m) from where you stand, serving as a perfect testament to the level of advancement achieved by the Incas, who excelled at building masterful constructions in harmony with nature. Lunch will take place at Wayra Ranch.
Day 5: Sacred Valley - Machu Picchu
Aboard a Vistadome train, travel to the Aguas Calientes train Station, enjoying spectacular views along the way. Upon arrival, board a bus that will take you to the entrance gate of the Machu Picchu citadel. Rediscovered by Hiram Bingham more than a century ago, Machu Picchu is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World. Its architectural beauty, spectacular natural landscapes, and the energy held in its enigmatic structures will take your breath away. After your tour, you will enjoy lunch at Tinkuy restaurant before checking into your hotel.
Day 6: Machu Picchu - Cusco
In the morning, you will have the chance to head back up to Machu Picchu on your own to keep exploring the ruins. At a pre-arranged time, you will be assisted back to the train station for your trip to Cusco onboard the Vistadome Train. Upon arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel and assisted with check-in.
Day 7: Cusco
You will join your guide for an exploration of Cusco, starting with the nearby ruins. These include the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puca-Pucara, and Tambomachay. Next, you will visit the Mercado de San Pedro (St. Peter's Market). This will give you an opportunity to get to know the sights, aromas, tastes, and colors of the region. Afterwards, you will stroll through the Main Square, where you will discover the Cathedral and admire its exquisite vestibules and priceless paintings. The tour will continue with a visit to one of the most impressive buildings of Incan Cusco: the Qoricancha (the Golden Temple).
Day 8: Depart Peru
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, you will be assisted to the airport for your flight to Lima. Upon arrival, you will connect with your onward flight.
