DAY 2 | LIMA - Culinary Tour and City Tour

After breakfast, visit one of Lima’s symbolic markets to see the amazing variety of fish, fruit, and vegetables used in Peruvian food. Afterwards, you will watch as the chefs from a famous restaurant demonstrate how to prepare Peru’s main dishes. Rounding out this culinary experience is a delicious lunch at Señorio de Sulco. After lunch, drive to historic downtown Lima, an UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site. Stops include the Main Square of Lima, the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the City Hall; next on the itinerary is a visit to the Santo Domingo Convent. Then, it’s off to the modern districts of San Isidro and, Miraflores, with a stop at the “Parque del Amor” (a sort of lover’s lane) and its incredible view of the Pacific Ocean. Overnight at Lima.

DAY 3 | LIMA - Artistic & Bohemian Barranco

Barranco is a district with a vast tradition and history, boasting lovely streets, old mansions, and plazas. Next is the Pedro de Osma Museum, where you will see the finest collection of Colonial paintings, furniture, and textiles. The tour continues with a stop at the museum of renowned photographer Mario Testino (closed on Mondays), where on display is the most extensive collection of his photographs. Overnight at Lima.

A morning flight to Cuzco, meeting upon arrival in Cuzco, reception and transfer to your hotel. This afternoon’s excursion is an incredible trip into the past as you will tour some of the nearby archeological sites. Start off at the Sacsayhuaman Fortress built of enormous stone blocks expertly shaped by the Incas. Then, it’s off to Qenko, which means labyrinth, and where the sun, the moon, and the stars were worshipped. Afterwards, it’s Puca Pucara, which might have served as an inn where the Incan emperor and his entourage would have rested and lodged for the night. The last set of ruins is at Tambomachay, where important water veneration rites may have been carried out. Overnight at Cuzco.

Spend half a day walking about the city of Cuzco, ancient capital of the Incan Empire and where we can see the interesting blend of the Incan and Spanish cultures. Our day begins at the Koricancha Temple, an old Incan palace and main center for the worship of the sun god, Inti. You will continue on foot to the neighborhood of San Blas, where the finest artisans in Cuzco live and work. Next visit the Inca Museum, located in an old Colonial period house built by Spanish Admiral Francisco Alderete Maldonado. The exhibits show the history of the city of Cuzco that is intimately linked to the Incan past that permeates this iconic city.

Pachamanca Lunch - Today you will experience a real Inca meal. Pachamanca (meaning earth pot in Quechua) is an ancient way of cooking by the Incas, baking with the aid of hot stones of lamb, pork, chicken marinated in spices. Overnight at Cuzco.

The excursion begins in the community of Misminay, which sits at an elevation 11,000 feet, in the Urubamba Valley, where the townsfolk will greet you. You will be able to join with the families as they perform their daily tasks, like plowing or harvesting, depending on the time of year. You can also participate in an offering to the earth (a rite that honors the earth mother) and enjoy a traditional lunch made by the community women from ingredients organically grown in their fields. In addition, you will see them spin and dye wool thread using natural dyes as well as weave fabric following their ancient techniques. Afterwards, you will be dropped off at the hotel in the valley. This evening you will have a menu dinner at Wayra Restaurant at Sol y Luna. Overnight at Sacred Valley.

Awaiting you today is by far and away one of the high points in world tourism: Machu Picchu. Your adventure starts on a train ride to the city of Aguas Calientes, where you disembark and then board a bus that drives you to the actual Machu Picchu archaeological site, where you will definitely have an experience you will never forget. The tour includes every nook and cranny of one of the 7 Modern Wonders of the World as well as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site; afterwards, there is some free time for you to explore the site on your own, to relax, or to meditate. We will have lunch at the Sanctuary Lodge, then board our bus for the ride back to Aquas Caliente for dinner and overnight.

Morning at leisure in Aguas Calientes. There is an Optional (not included) Second Visit to Machu Picchu. We strongly recommend waking early in the morning to visit Machu Picchu and perhaps climb to the top of Mount Huayna Picchu (8,900 feet). The trail is steep and parts of it include several section of stone staircases carved directly into the mountainside. Rest of the day at leisure. Lunch at the hotel. Transfer to the railway station and where you will board the Vistadome train back to Ollanta. Arrival and transfer to your hotel. Overnight at Cuzco.

Late this morning you will be transferred back to the airport in Cuzco for your flight back to Lima and connect for your international flight. After you have finished lunch transfer to the airport for your flight. Entrance into the “VIP Room” is included at Lima airport as well as a goodbye gift for you!
